NEWS & EVENTS  ACTIVITIES

The college actively involve in the training of postgraduates with the board of study of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine- University of Colombo. The college holds clinical meetings seminars, symposia and workshops for the postgraduate trainees of ophthalmology. It elects members of the college to represent it at the board and encourages teaching hospital consultants to teach and evaluate students.

It participates in making policy decisions of the board of study, adviser to the ministry of health.

The college wherever possible finds suitable placements for the postgraduates who are sent on 1-2 years training abroad.
The college selects suitable candidates to be sent on short-term fellowships abroad to train in different aspects of ophthalmology.

The college actively participates in the training of ophthalmic technologists, conducting examinations and awarding degrees,.

The college bring about close collaboration and coordination between it and the other ophthalmic colleges or ophthalmic organizations of international standards.

Members actively participate in international conferences and on their return update local ophthalmologists on recent updates.

The college actively involves in inviting experts in ophthalmology and related fields from local and international faculties to update the knowledge of its membership.

College encourages development of sub-specialities in ophthalmology.

The college stage an annual scientific congress as the main academic activity for the year during the last quarter of its academic year. The programme includes pre-congress workshops, inaugural session with the delivery of presidential address, 2-3 days of scientific sessions. Two other important events are college lecture delivered by an eminent ophthalmologist and Dr P Sivasubramaniam oration.

In addition there are symposia, workshops, and free paper presentations by ophthalmologists as well as trainees. There is a poster competition open for Postgraduate trainees. The reward for the best paper presented by postgraduate trainee and the best poster is awarded by the college.

The session concludes after having a banquet dinner.

Availability of recourses also permits conducting post-congress workshops which is mainly for the benefit of postgraduate trainees
